The Unitarian Chapel

View Map map

The former Unitarian Chapel opened for its first service in 1824. The building of the church led to huge debts that Honest John Fielden helped pay off. Religion and Education were of great importance to the Fieldens.

Once you've listened to the track continue your journey.

At the top of these steps, turn right and walk 20 metres. Where the road splits, walk downhill. You will see a graveyard to the side of the Chapel on your right through some iron railings in a stone wall.

Accessible Route Information: There are 1.5 steps up onto the terrace then 1 step down into the graveyard. Graves can be viewed from the terrace. There is limited access for wheelchairs in the graveyard.

This is a good place to listen to the next track.
