The Golden Lion

View Map map

The Golden Lion opened in 1789; as well as serving as a coaching inn it was an important meeting place. Fielden Square is the little triangle of land, named because of the Statue of Honest John Fielden that was originally placed here.

Once you've listened to the track continue your journey.

Just past the Golden Lion is a path with steps leading up the hill. Walk up these steps and at the top turn left, and carry on walking for about 30 metres. Cross the road, and walk up the steps to the side of the former Unitarian Chapel.

Accessible Route Information: Cross Longfield Road, to the right of the Golden Lion, take the small lane to the right, Bank St, leading uphill. Ignore the entrance road to the Unitarian Church, continue uphill and bend to the left at the T-junction. Continue uphill to the site of the former Unitarian Chapel.

This would be a good place to listen the next track.
