Themes and highlights.
The walk takes you up onto the hills to the north and west of Todmorden. On the way you will see how aspects of the landscape have been formed by the inhabitants of the area, chiefly led by members of the Fielden family through the generations.
The Fielden story is also told in the Walk around Todmorden with the Fieldens e-Trail.
Length and time.
The walk is about 13 km (approx 8 miles) and should take about 4 hours to complete. There are two points on the route where an easy short return into Todmorden could be made.
There are two long, continuous, often steep climbs onto the hills around Todmorden. There is one stretch with exposure to a long drop at the side of the hill.
Ground conditions, stiles and steps.
The majority of the walk is on farm tracks and lanes but there are stretches of open fields and moorland where it can be wet and boggy. There are several stiles to be crossed.
